Mechanical Engineering

FROM THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has taken a lead role in the college since its inception in the year of 1995. The Department has taken active role in upgrading the academic credentials of the college by introducing the first Master of Technology course in Production Engineering in this college in 2003. The department is also chosen as a Centre by the Institution of Engineers (India) for conducting Laboratory classes towards AMIE Examination. Three National Conferences were successfully organized by the Department in 2003, 2007 and 2019, apart from organizing a number of Seminars, Workshops, Invited Lecturers, Training Courses, Webinars, etc. for academic improvement of teachers, students and staff of this college, and also for other colleges around. Experienced faculty members supervise a number of PhD scholars.

Out of the quality Project works at the UG, PG and Ph.D level offered in the Department, good number of publications have been made in Technical Research Journals and National and International Conferences to indicate its high standard. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is also undertaking testing and consultancy works regularly as per the need of the industry.

VISION

Engineering Graduates in Mechanical Engineering will be able to: 1) Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. 2) Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences. 3) Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations. 4) Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions. 5) Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations. 6) The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice. 7) Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development. 8) Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice. 9) Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings. 10) Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions. 11) Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments. 12) Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change. Post-Graduates in Production Engineering will acquire: 1) PO1: An ability to independently carry out research/ investigation and development work to solve practical problems. 2) PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document. 3) PO3: An ability to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the programme. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor programme. 4) PO4: The ability to understand, analyse and manage production processes and systems. 5) PO5: The understanding to disseminate fundamental as well as state-of-the-art knowledge in academic and/or industrial environment.
Graduates in Mechanical Engineering will be able to: PSO1: manage the job floor of an industry efficiently and effectively. PSO2: understand and analyse the thermal and /or mechanical behaviour of the materials and systems. PSO3: identify and apply the most suitable process for manufacturing the components. Post-Graduates in Production Engineering will be able to: PSO1: Understand, analyse and manage production processes and systems related to mechanical manufacturing. PSO2: Disseminate fundamental as well as state-of-the-art knowledge in academic and/or industrial environment related to mechanical manufacturing. PSO3: Carry out independent research efficiently and effectively in the areas of manufacturing technology and production engineering.
